ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Angelo.

Boat Experts Founder and Chief Boat Whisperer

I’m a boating tragic with a tolerant wife who picked me up as a stray in high school and hasn’t been able to shake me since.

 

I’m also dad to four awesome kids — three of whom have now joined their old man as part of the SS Boat Experts crew. Mum probably blackmailed them to make sure I didn’t embarrass the family too much. Good luck with that.

 

And I’m grandad to two young girls. I had their lifejackets picked out before they were walking. Just waiting for sea legs before we take things offshore.

Boats have been my business (and obsession) for over 20 years.

 

In that time, I’ve:

 

  • Bought them

  • Sold them (around 1,800 worth a collective $80M, give or take)

  • Reviewed them (as Editor of TrailerBoat and Field Editor of Trade-A-Boat)

  • Designed them

  • Marketed them

  • Modified them

  • Consulted on them

  • And probably conceived a kid or three on them

 

I’ve directed ops for Whittley, ran Cobalt Boats & Bennington Pontoons Vic, and worked in R&D with brands like Haines Hunter and, more recently, Revival Boats.

 

That’s not a résumé.

That’s two decades immersed in the boating industry from just about every angle.

 

Bottom line? I didn’t wake up one day and decide to be a “boat buying expert.”

 

I lived it.

 

And I know a great deal about what a great deal really looks like — not just on paper, but out on the water where it actually matters.

Why Boat Experts?

​

Boat Experts didn’t begin as a grand masterplan.

 

It evolved.

 

During COVID, when showrooms shut and buyers were stuck at home, I found myself guiding people through the boat-buying process remotely.

 

Not selling them boats.

 

Helping them understand what they were looking at.

 

Helping them compare properly.

 

Helping them avoid expensive mistakes.

 

Buyers liked having someone steady in their corner.

Dealers appreciated informed, ready buyers.

 

It worked.

 

But the market kept shifting.

 

The post-pandemic bubble distorted pricing. Supply tightened. Negotiation disappeared. Corners were cut. Then the cycle flipped again.

 

Now we’re in a different environment altogether.

 

Discounting is back. Trade-in values vary wildly. Stock levels are uneven. And “deals” don’t always mean what they appear to mean.

 

In this kind of market, clarity matters more than ever.

Boat Experts is an independent, buyer-focused advisory service built specifically for trailer boat buyers.

 

Not the big-boat end of town.

 

Not luxury brokers.

 

Everyday buyers making serious financial decisions who don’t want to rely on guesswork.

 

Today the focus is simple:

How I think about boats

 

I care about:

 

  • How a hull actually performs in real conditions

  • Whether the layout suits how you genuinely plan to use it

  • What’s missing from the spec sheet

  • Whether the pricing structure makes sense in today’s market

  • And whether the numbers stack up beyond the headline discount

 

If a boat or deal fits your brief, I’ll say so.

 

If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too.

 

That’s the point of independence.

Where this is heading

 

This is just the first step.

 

The long-term vision for Boat Experts is to bridge the divide between buyers, dealers and manufacturers — improving clarity, communication and outcomes for everyone involved.

 

But at its core, the mission stays simple:

 

Help buyers make better decisions.

 

Protect them from unnecessary mistakes.

 

And make sure that when they finally back the trailer into the driveway, they feel confident — not second-guessing.
